Field of Colors / Compositions
This piece is the first composition of my work in connection with color field painting which I define as a result of my former monochrome photographic practice. I model the images’ birth by showing not only the instant material but the filters I used to make the color prints, too. These “colour fields” come to life in a controlled and isolated environment, the sterility of which is not characteristic to the use of the raw material. The pictures do not have a grip on reality, they do not represent; they do not fulfil the primary duty of images. Becoming the tool of documentation, each coloured filter can correspond to one colour film and allows the origin of the images to be retraceable. This transformation – how the functions of object and image trade places – is in the eye of my interest.
